  • 1. Who is Kunia Cultural Hub?

    Kunia is a cooperative art space offering dance, movement & art classes. We organise events, festivals & exhibitions. Our main goal is to create a supportive community, to promote self expression and creativity through artistic and cultural activities and to bring people together through art events & festivals. We are trying to make Kunia a safe space for everyone by encouraging diversity and empower inclusivity.

  • 2. What is Movin' & Groovin;?

    Movin’ & Groovin’ is a swing dance & movement festival hosted by Kunia Cultural Hub in Thessaloniki, Greece. It brings together the vibrant energy of swing dance (Lindy Hop, Vernacular Solo Jazz, Balboa and more), and the dynamic spirit of movement culture! A perfect fusion of rhythm, music, motion and movement!

    Movement culture refers to the diverse practices, values, and expressions related to physical movement and bodily awareness across different communities and contexts. It encompasses various forms of physical activity, from dance and sports to fitness and martial arts, reflecting how people engage with their bodies and interact with others through movement.

  • 4. What is Swing Dancing?

    Swing dance, a family of dances linked to jazz music, emerged from African American communities in the 1920s and 1930s. It grew from the lively social dance scenes of Harlem’s Cotton Club and other jazz venues, reflecting the vibrant cultural exchange of the era. Swing dance incorporates various styles like the Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa, each contributing to its dynamic, improvisational nature.     The festival is open to dancers & movers of all levels. Whether you’ve been dancing for years or you’re just starting out, there’s something for everyone.

  • 7. Are there any classes for complete beginners?

    We might offer some introductory classes during the festival. Keep an eye on our website and on social media.

  • 8. What can I expect at Movin' & Groovin?

    Movin’ & Groovin’ offers a dynamic mix of dance & movement classes, workshops, talk sessions, performances and unforgettable parties. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from top-notch instructors, dance the night away, and make lasting memories.

  • 9. Why open level classes?

    Inclusivity: Open-level classes are open to dancers with varying levels of experience. Whether you’re taking your first steps in dance or you’re a seasoned dancer looking to refine your skills, these classes accommodate all.

    Adaptability: Instructors tailor their teaching to meet the diverse needs of the participants. They provide options and variations in choreography or technique, allowing each dancer to progress at their own pace.

    Collaboration: Open-level classes foster a sense of community and teamwork. Dancers of different levels often work together, learning from one another and offering support and encouragement.

    Challenge and Growth: Less experienced dancers can learn from more advanced dancers, while experienced dancers can refine their fundamentals. This mix challenges everyone and promotes continuous improvement.

    Enjoyment: Above all, open-level classes prioritise the joy of dance. They create an environment where participants can have fun, express themselves, and develop a deep appreciation for the art form.

  • 10. Can I purchase tickets at the door?

    It’s recommended to register in advance to secure your spot and take advantage of any early bird discounts. However, if there are spots available, you may be able to purchase tickets at the door. We will make announcements on social media for door sales, based on the registrations we received.

  • 11. Is there a code of conduct for the festival?

    Yes, Movin’ & Groovin’ promotes a respectful and inclusive atmosphere. Attendees are expected to follow a code of conduct that encourages kindness, inclusivity, and a safe environment for all participants

  • 12. Can I bring non-dancing friends or family to the parties?

    Absolutely! The parties are a great way to introduce friends and family to the world of swing dancing and have a fantastic time together. Some parties & events are free and some have an entrance fee. Check our website for more info.

  • 13. Can I get a refund if I can't attend after purchasing tickets?

    We do not offer refund options but you are welcome to transfer your pass to someone else. Please read our terms & conditions for more information. If you decide to transfer your pass please contact our admin team via email [hello@kunia.gr] so as to update our records. We will need the name and the email of the person who will get your pass.

  • 14. How can I pay for Movin' & Groovin'?

    You can pay for your pass of choice via our website by card, or at our space during working hours. More payment details will be sent to participants once they submit their registration.
